The Return

Yep, I'm back. It's been a hell of a few days (and the next few promise their fair share of different kinds of Hell). But the kids are in bed, and Tracey is thankfully improving rapidly. Tomorrow, I have all day to write, so I thought it was about time I updated this journal.

My new novel DESOLATION is coming along nicely. It's going to be published by Leisure in mmp and Borderlands Press as a gorgeous limited edition hardcover. It's quite different to anything I've done before, and I'm certain it's one of the best things I've written. It's good to be able to say that about a work in progress, of course ... I only hope I still believe it when I finally type THE END. Which, assuming I meet the deadline, will be at the end of July. Gulp.

EXORCISING ANGELS has been selected for the Mammoth Book of Best New Horror! Simon and I are thrilled, and very grateful to Stephen Jones for taking our story. If you haven't read it yet, you can get it from the usual dealers (as listed in my Links page).

I did a reading at Monmouth library in South Wales last Friday, to an audience of four. Two of them were librarians. And one was a friend from work. Sounding worse and worse as I go on, isn't it ...? It was a fun evening, though, and I'm always willing to sit and talk about writing for hours on end!

Any HELLBOY fans here ...? I'm working on a story for a new HELLBOY anthology, edited by Christopher Golden for Dark Horse. I'll post more details as and when the story is finished and submitted, but I'll be revisiting some nasties that have featured in my work before.

I've also had a story accepted for the Mammoth Book of Sorcerer's Tales, edited by Mike Ashley. FOREVER is set in the DUSK universe (DUSK is my dark fantasy novel currently sitting on some major publishers' desks on both sides of the Atlantic ...Nervous? ME? Pah!), and it was great to visit that world again and find out a lot more about it. I'm certain I'll return again and again in the future, for dark fantasy stories and probably horror tales as well.

Competition Time: check out the Competition thread on my message board in the next few days for a new competition, where you can win a limited edition hardback of FEARS UNNAMED from Borderlands Press.

Finally, Tim's one word film review of Matrix Revolutions:

BOLLOCKS!
