My Big New Deal

Firstly, Happy Christmas to you all.

Secondly, Happy Christmas to me ... because Bantam Dell have just bought my two dark fantasy novels DUSK and DAWN! I've been waiting to announce this for a while but only had the go ahead from Bantam yesterday (contracts sorted and signed). So, here we are:-)

I'm thrilled. Ecstatic. Bouncing off the ceiling. It feels like the deal I've been waiting for all my life. Bantam will be publishing DUSK sometime in early 2006, and DAWN sometime after that (schedule to be decided). I've finished DUSK, and I'm now just waiting for the revision letter from my wonderful new editor, Anne Groell. I'll be writing DAWN next year, right after I write my Hellboy novel for Simon & Schuster.

Every time I think about this deal, I have to raise a glass to it. I try to think about it a lot:-)

I have to thank Night Shade Books and Chris Golden for reasons they know about. And also thanks to Anne at Bantam for taking a chance with me.

So that's my Christmas present ... and it's only left for me to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Please keep dropping by my site, as there'll be more news coming soon ... including news on a new option on one of my novels.

My Forthcoming Zombie Novel

Well, there isn't one planned yet, but my dreams are telling me there should be ...

A few weeks ago I had a powerful, vivid dream that flowed like a movie, about zombies taking over the world. I was one of a group of survivors on a Manhatten-like island (the other survivors were real-life friends of mine, mourning the loss of their families, and therefore the emotion was real and raw). A group of survivors tried to escape by space shuttle (gimme a break, it was a dream!) but it exploded a mile up, leaving only a handful of us left. Zombies tried crossing the river but were picked off my marksmen on the other side ... the island was obviously the limit of the contagion, for now. Other stuff happened - a chase, a descent into a subterranean maze, and eventual triumph for the zombies.

Wow, I thought. There's GOT to be a book in this. But then I thought of Keene's CITY OF THE DEAD, and Romero's LAND OF THE DEAD, and I thought, eh, no point.

Last night I had another zombie dream. Again it rolled like a surreal movie, the first half being the invasion of zombies, chases through streets familiar to me, and eventually being caught, bitten and infected. That's when it went REALLY weird. Because I was a zombie, and not too upset at the fact. I went to a zombie convention in a big field, and the Queen was there, zombified herself (and hey, who'd tell the fuckin' difference, y'know?). I was in a line due to meet her, and upon seeing me she said, "Tim Lebbon, I've heard of you."

My comeback was, of course, "I think I've heard of you, too."

Very weird.

So maybe somewhere in there, there IS a zombie novel struggling to come out.

Or maybe I'll just look forward to the next dream.

THE END

That's what I've just typed on my new manuscript, BERSERK. Finished it five minutes ago, and it feel good:-) Now that the easy part's over I have to edit, revise, edit and revise, but it's nice to know the first write is done. Big news about this new novel soon! Watch this space!

Also had the French version of FACE through today, Le Visage Du Mal. My first foreign language sale, and that feels good as well. May there be many more! It's a nice looking book, great cover art, beautifully produced, here's hoping the publisher wants to carry on publishing Lebbon stuff.

Right, novel finished, I'm off for a pint.
