Had about 3 hours sleep last night. Daniel has a bad cough and cold, and he spent most of the night in bed with us, coughing and colding his little heart out. Bless him. So now I'm exhausted, my eyes look like they've been rubbed with handfulls of salty grit, and the day promises to be a long, long one. But it doesn't matter. You know why? Because sleep is overrated.
That's what I keep telling myself.
Sleep is overrated .....
My new novella DEAD MAN'S HAND is available to pre-order now. If you get it from the publisher - Necessary Evil Press - you won't be charged until the book ships. Check out www.necessaryevilpress.com You can also order from Shocklines and other online dealers (check out my Links page)
DEAD MAN'S HAND is the first in the Assassin Series. It's based in Deadwood around the time of Wild Bill Hickok's slaying, and it features a character some of you may remember from MESMER, Temple. He'll appear in subsequent books in the series as a sort of supernatural assassin, rampaging his way through the history books and giving me a fine chance to write some alternate history stories!
It's available as a limited paperback and a beautiful traycased lettered editions, with cover and interiors by Caniglia and an introduction by Tom Piccirilli. The lettered is almost SOLD OUT already, and the paperback is going fast, so don't hang about!
I bought the latest PINK album. And I like it.
But give me a break before laying into me! Those who know me will be aware that I like my music distinctly heavy. Metallica. System of A down. You get the drift. But Pink - that same lady who graces Top of the Pops regularly and appears in an advert with Britney and Beyonce - has one of the best female rock voices in recent years.
I've stated my case - now you can lay into me. Check out the PINK thread at my message board.
Well, the BBC have decided that FACE isn't for them after all. I heard from them yesterday that they won't be adapting it for screen, which is a real shame. I don't really know the reasons, but I guess these things... just happen. Oh well! On the positive side, my film agent will be sending some copies out *very* soon to film companies in the UK and US.
Talking of which ... should have some exciting film news to talk about soon. Waiting for contracts to be signed and all the usual before I can say anything, but suffice to say one of my favourite novellas has been optioned:-) Watch this space!
Counting down to my part-time work: 6 weeks from tomorrow I'll begin earning most of my living from writing. Apparantly my car insurance will suddenly go up, as because I'm a writer I'm more at risk of travelling around to parties, getting drunk and crashing! Invite me to a party, someone. Please!
I have two new books available now!
EXORCISING ANGELS is the novella I wrote in collaboration with Simon Clark. It's about the Angels of Mons myth from World War One, and the man who inspired it, the great author Arthur Machen. Machen is a main character in the novella! There's also original stories from both of us, an Introduction and an Afterword, as well as a STUNNING cover by Les Edwards. You can pick this up from all the usual dealers (see the LINKS page of my website for a list)
The second book is the mass market paperback of FEARS UNNAMED. This is my third Leisure title. It's a collection of four novellas: White, Naming of Parts, The Unfortunate and the brand new novella Remnants. Leisure have done a fantastic job as usual, the book looks wonderful and I'me VERY proud of it. You can pick this up from Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com.
Borderlands Press will be releasing a beautiful limited edition hardback, and a deluxe edition of FEARS UNNAMED very soon now, along with an exclusive intro from me about the novellas.
Hoorah! My website's back up! Sorry for the few days it's been down ... my domain name ran out and I didn't get a reminder (or perhaps I did get one, but ended up deleting it along with the million spams I get every day).
News: my new Leisure book FEARS UNNAMED is out now!! Check out the news section for details, and the Bibliography section in a few days as well. It's my third Leisure title, and they're starting to look pretty good sitting together there on my shelf.
Now, one of the most shocking news items in recent history: Janet Jackson's tit. Who gives a royal flying fuck? Can somebody please explain what was so terrible about it? It seems to me - from what I can see from all the way over here - that the American media is in uproar about it. Gross indecency. Terrible, awful, the most disgusting thing ever seen at a sporting event. Blah blah...
It's a tit. It's nowhere near as bad as illegal elections and illegal wars. Is it? Maybe it's just me.
